Very nice town with Jugend style house. Stay 1-2 nights to explore and enjoy the city before or after the fjords and mountains. We visited end of May and it was not crowded. Several outdoor activities available. But many things van be done by your own, public transport will take you to many nice sites in Alesund and the surrounding areas. See or download FRAM app, and consider the concept Travel as a local, i.e bus and ferry to Geiranger about 7h leaving at 9 am. We walk up the 400 steps to view point Fjellstua with our boys 2 and 5 year old. You can also do it:-)

Beautiful city! How yoo the stairs early inn the morning for the best light that lights up the buildings below with no shadows!
Beautiful place must do the 419 steps at Fjellstua for views that are spectacular, the only down side is its very wet. Xx
