The statue conveys a beautiful emotion...perhaps this man's courage & empathy, and devotion to his people. Excerpt from Wikipedia: "...known as Prince Carl of Denmark until 1905, was a Danish prince who became the first king of Norway after the 1905 dissolution of the union with Sweden. He reigned from November 1905 until his death in September 1957. As one of the few elected monarchs, Haakon quickly won the respect and affection of his people. He played a pivotal role in uniting the Norwegian nation in its resistance to the Nazi invasion and subsequent five-year-long occupation of his country during World War II..."

Kong Hakoon VII Haakon VII (født Christian Frederik Carl Georg Valdemar Axel, prins til Danmark og Island 3. august 1872, død 21. september 1957) var Norges konge fra 1905 til 1957. Han ble døpt Christian Frederik Carl Georg Valdemar Axel, men gikk under navnet Carl og var prins av Danmark. Han giftet seg 22. juli 1896med sin kusine Maud Charlotte Mary Victoria av Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, prinsesse av Storbritannia og Irland(født 26. november 1869, død 20. november 1938). Han tilhørte fyrstehuset Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. Prins Carl var sønn av kong Frederik VIII av Danmark og prinsesse Lovisa av Sverige, bror av Christian X av Danmark, og sønnesønn av Christian IX av Danmark. Han skiftet navn til Haakon da han ble valgt til Norges konge etter unionsoppløsningen. Carl ble dermed konge i Norge før faren og den eldre broren ble konge i Danmark.
