The website is back up after a week offline but it offers no apology, explanation or — most importantly, schedules: it's 20 December 2020, and they still don't list what dates they're running beyond 17 Dec for an essential route the Government is heavily subsidising them to run. The customer service centre is so understaffed that it's been taking over an hour to get through by phone most of this year. UPDATE: 27 Dec. The booking engine is working again but shows no trips ex Bodø on the essential service route till 6 Feb, which is not correct. So Hurtigruten takes the subsidy without actually providing nord Norwegians with a basic service. This comes on top of the company's Covid-19 deceit that spread the infection up here. The only solution seems to be to re-nationalise this once proud icon of Norway, fumigate it thoroughly for corporate rot (råtne), and rebuild it from the bottom up.

What a great way to explore the fjords! MS nordkapp had great breakfast, interesting activities, sauna and 2 Jacuzzis with great views on board. Port to port trips are available using the norwegian Hurtigruten site.

We took a 24 hour trip from Bergen to Ålesund after going into Geirangerfjord. Fortunately weather was good in late August with no rains and full sunshine almost the whole day. MS Polarlys is a small but nicely refurbished ship. We took an inner cabin in the 2nd floor. Cabin was very good, clean with a bath inside. The breakfast was very nice. It's a buffet. We spotted a pack of dolphins. Stunning fjord views. Cabin check out time was 12 noon. They are luggage lockers and open luggage storage space. Most cruise passengers are retired guests from Germany, UK. We met few Chinese cruise makers too. Port to port passengers seems mostly Norwegians. On board restaurants are expensive. There is an on board expedition team who arranges all the sight seeing trips for the cruise passengers. Special menu with local specialities available. Overall for youngsters like us who doesn't want to spend a lot of money and time and still experience a cruise, Hurtigruten is the best choice. :)

Great ships, some are relatively new and some need a little refreshing. I've been on 4 large (7 deck) ships, only one had available usb ports for charging, was traveling between Tromsø and Havøysund, not on a single trip beds (cabin) were available, but that's understandable :) As it appears, North is a very popular destination with senior tourists from Germany (mostly). I've noticed, that heating is reduced or off during the night in general deck area, so if you won't get a cabin you may want to have something warm on you (winter moths).
