Kolsastoppen is a wonderful quick pick hike. If you have 2 to 3 hrs when you are in Oslo and are thinking of spending some quality time with nature then go for it. It is ideal from Oct to Jan. The route starts from Hauger Tban station. Just set your GPS on toppenveien and the rest you will see markings made for the trail upto the hill top. The mountain trail is 800mtrs and should take an hour or so.
Nice walk of about 2.5 km from the bus stop, ascending about 250m to about 350 meters above sea level.
Good hike up up up to the top with a beautiful view to reward you.
If you can't see the city you have stopped a little too soon! There is a stop beat the beautiful going area that has a pole and seems like the top (lots of the photos on Google are of this area). Keep following the path and you will find the beautiful cliffs. We found the path was not appears that clearly marked - get a good set of instructions before you start. The ski lift area they are building takes you directly there, so if in doubt you can take a short cut up the gravel road.
One of the best views ever.
Recommend \attacking\ the top from the north (e.g. Knabberudveien bus stop). Much less crowded, not as steep, and no artificial stairs. Nordre Kolsåstopp has an amazing view over the fjord, and the top itself has an interesting surface of rounded rocks.
Autumn -> Good weather -> Funny group -> Great trip!
