The statue might not be much of an attraction but it is fascinating how a guy that was born in Stavanger and was named Niels Olufsen, ended up as a captain on a Dutch merchant vessel, then service in the Dutch navy before he was engaged by the tsar of Russia and ended up being one of the architects of the modernization of the Russian Navy! He worked for the tsar for 25 years and ended up as an Admiral.
